Nigeria: Boko Haram demands ransom for kidnapped women. Boko Haram terrorists have demanded a ransom of 40 cows for each of 20 kidnapped women who have been held for a week now. The Fulani women were captured near Chibok, Borno Province, in northeastern Nigeria.
Iraq: Parliament fails to muster quorum for emergency plan. The Iraqi parliament failed to muster a quorum for approving the Shiite prime minister Nuri al-Maliki’s plan to impose a national state of emergency to ward off ISIS’s threatened march on Baghdad.
Russia: Military exercises held in response to NATO drills. In Kaliningrad (that little piece of Russia that's situated between Poland and Lithuania on the Baltic coast), Russia has begun military drills in what it says is a response to NATO moves in Eastern Europe.
